Videocast
This is my first ever videocast. There were not really any problems with shooting the video. I had a very simple setup with just a camera. I figured it would be unnecessary to have a complex setup because I knew the exporting process would lesser the quality of the footage. While editing this short piece, there were no problems. It was basically simple cuts with some key framing of pictures. When I exported the projected is when I noticed some problems. Originally, I exported the video at medium quality with QuickTime conversion. This took up to much memory so I tried exporting it with lesser quality, and it ended up working a little better. The reason why it works better is because it takes less time to load the video to view it on the blog. The negative part of the lesser quality of the export is the picture. It is not that big of a deal, but it would have been nicer to a clearer image.

Blogs and Candidates
This entry is in response to the numerous 2008 United States presidential candidates using blogs on their websites. The candidate that I took a closer look to see more about her blog was Hillary Clinton. If one would open up her website they would see numerous different links to Hillary Clintons presidential beliefs. Also, the theme of red, white and blue is made apparent to show that she is patriotic.
As one would click the blog link and read the blog on her website they would probably see her as someone just trying to receive money. Honestly, the entries were exactly what I thought they would be. The articles would say what Hillary Clinton has done, and then many of the people’s posts would say they would donate to her campaign because she is the best. For some, this would influence them to donate to her campaign, but for me I somewhat just think of it as layers of campaign propaganda. As a 20-year-old college student it does not connect with me, but it may connect to her older audience. Most people who go to the website are probably supporters and want to donate to her campaign. The blog then works because it seems like the reasoning for having it is to raise money and support for her work. In closing, blogs are a powerful way to gain support for the audience the blog is directed towards.

YouTube
The question is, do I search for copyrighted information on YouTube? The answer is yes, but not normally for specific copyrighted information. For example, I will watch highlight clips of athletes and actors, but I do not try to watch a whole episode of a show or a movie. I don’t think watching these are wrong, but honestly, even watching these can be hard to justify. So the only reason I can say it is right is because I only watch these copyrighted clips for pure entrainment and because there easy to access. People who put these videos on YouTube shouldn’t be able to, but it is YouTube’s fault for allowing them on their website. YouTube is making a ton of money, and if someone went through the legality and time to get something copyrighted, YouTube shouldn’t be able to make profit off something someone else invested in.
One legal act that helps prevent copyrighted material is The Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act is a good thing because it puts pressure on people to not use copyrighted material on the Web.

Chris' first Podcast!
This is my podcast:
This is my first podcast ever! To start off, the assignment was to interview someone in the industry that I am trying to get into. I chose a senior at Ohio University who is in the School of Telecommunications because of his constant involvement in student activities and an internship he did over the summer. While making the podcast, I ran into some problems. The first problem was capturing audio. We chose to record audio in a sound booth because we thought it would sound good, but for some reason the camera we used to record audio messed with the time code of the tape. During capturing, the tape would stop capturing after a few seconds because of these problems. I resolved this problem by using a voice recorder. I used Final Cut Pro to edit the audio because as a video production major that is what I am most used to using. I then exported to GarageBand, a program that I have never really used, and put tracks of sounds and music to make the interview more interesting. While working in GarageBand, I notice that our voices were distorted, this happened because I didn’t know to change the frequency to what CD’s use. Even if I did know to do this before, I may have kept the distortion because I think my voice is kind of girly. To put this podcast on the web our class used Dreamweaver. We went through a bunch of steps that I can’t exactly remember, but it works. Have fun listening!

Everyone's a Journalist
Report now research later has been the mentality of many reporters these days. What has are world come to, a straight money hungry society? No, that can’t be the answer because for all time numerous journalists have tried to make money with cheap reporting. The only difference now is that anyone with Internet access can do this through personal blogs. So, naturally there are going to be more ethical problems, and problems with today’s youth.
Our technology driven society has made it possible for kids, who have little or no journalistic knowledge, able make there own blogs through websites like Facebook and MySpace. Is this wrong or scary? In some ways yes because many children do not understand that they are not untouchable. I was the same way, when I was younger it was chat rooms that were the big deal. While I was in these chat rooms with people from who knows where with what intentions, I felt safe because I had no idea what the world was like. This is the same idea with today’s younger generation in regards to the idea of blogging. Many times these blogging websites have personal pictures and comments that should be kept to one’s self. The reason for this is because a simple picture could potentially demolish one’s reputation. Representing one’s self is critical, especially when anyone can see your life unfold on a single webpage.

Regulating Blogs
Should blogs be regulated is a question that has recently risen in the last few years. There are some reasons why they should have some regulations and reasons why regulations could take away the personal aspects of many blogs. Blogs should be regulated if they break the laws of libel or through podcasts break the law of slander. If these two laws are followed then personal opinions that have truth behind them should not be regulated.
The problem then arises that if a blogger purposely makes false statements on their blog can the Internet Service Provider name who created the blog. What’s the difference if Internet Service Providers are already naming names for illegally downloading? There isn’t, if someone is doing something illegally then they should be questioned, and then if convicted they must deal with the consequences. A problem I have with this is if Internet Service Providers start intruding on Internet users privacy’s that have nothing to do with the law. I can not say I know much about the laws that concern Internet privacy, but there needs to be some line that peeking on someone’s personal computer is illegal.

Adobe's New Creation
Adobe Creative Suite 2 made a huge impact on the video postproduction process. Recently, Adobe released its third version, Adobe Creative Suite 3. This entry is a response to an article I found on http://www.bizcommunity.com/Article/196/13/14070.html. The article I am replying to describes how this suite has most brilliant ideas for applications ever delivered in a single box. One great thing about this new product is that it will be Universal for both Intel-based Macs and PowerPC applications. This new suite is offering six innovative configurations to its past collection. One of these applications is Production Premium and it will have the deepest impact on the video production process. This product is part of Adobe Creative Suite 3 software that will make it easier to distribute abounding mobile video.
